Sheriff "Big John" Williams was shot and killed upon responding to a noise complaint a convenience store off Hwy 21 in Hayneville.
 

Sheriff Williams was speaking with  the driver of a truck exhibiting loud music, when he was shot and killed.The subject then fled the scene, but later returned and  was taken into custody. It was later determined that the truck was  stolen and the suspect was the son of a Montgomery County Sheriff's deputy.

Big John had served in law enforcement for over forty years.He was also a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He is survived by his wife and children.
